1. 應該選擇工作好找的專業還是應該選擇自己感興趣的專業

I definitely agree that one should choose a major that suits his interest rather than the job market. For one thing, it’s sad to put the pragmatic concern before everything. If you force yourself to learn something you don’t like, chances are that you will not be fully-devoted to learn it well, and may even feel bored and regret. In addition, the demand of job market is subject to change all the time. There is no guarantee that the popular major when you enter the college would remain popular after you graduate. So I think it’s always safe to count on something you like to do and do it well.

2. 同不同意People should always tell the truth .

I definitely disagree that people should always tell the truth, because lying is necessary sometimes. One example is the white lie. People always tell white lies to prevent other’s feeling from being hurt. Like husbands always say their wife is the most beautiful woman in the world to please her, even though they both know it can’t be true. In addition, in business or politics, people use lies or bluffs as a negotiation strategy to win more benefit for their side. Such kind of lies are also acceptable. So, I hold that not telling the truth is ok and even helpful sometimes.

3. Do you agree that we can judge a person by the appearance at the first glance?

I definitely disagree that we can judge a person by the first glance, because it’s not reliable. For one thing, appearance lies. An extreme example will be a con man who may dress decently and talk sincerely, but in fact he is only acting to trick you. Moreover, to get a full picture of another person takes much more than a glance. There are so many information you can’t tell from people’s appearance, like their past history, their eating habit, etc.. What you get is only a partial, and the partial may lead to prejudice. So, for these reasons, I don’t think judging a person by the first impression is a good idea.

4. Do you agree or disagree: Students should wear uniform in school?

I tend to disagree that students should wear uniform in school. For one thing, I think as long as the students are doing fine, it doesn’t matter what they wear. Some may say uniform is to prevent certain students wearing inappropriate clothes for school. why not just make some restrictions. The school doesn’t have to make everyone dressed the same. And this is my second point, asking students to wear uniform is a demand for conformity. As young people like to express themselves, it can be a bad influence on their psychology. So, for these reasons, I don’t like uniforms.

是否同意學生進入大學前有一個one-year的break

I tend to agree with having a one-year break before going to college. For one thing, it gives you more time to consider about your major. Traditionally, university candidates do not have much time to decide what to learn in college. With the one year break, they can collect information or think more carefully to make this important choice. In addition, some students can use this break to earn some money for their tuition. So I think the one-year break is a good idea.

5. 學生在工作前應該做part-time job或者summer intern來確定自己是否合適那份工作?

I definitely agree with students doing part-time or intern to find out which job they most fit in. because such working experience give you real information. When you do the real job, you may realize it is nothing like what you’ve learned in school. Like, through an internship a student from business school may find out he is not good at dealing with a client in practical situation. So he may think of other alternatives like becoming a lecturer. In addition, part-times and interns enable you to try more kinds of jobs and give you a greater variety to choose from. So, I recommend students taking part-times or interns.

6. Have a relaxed and unhurried life, yes or no?

No, it sounds hedonistic. for one thing, it’s not possible for one to be relaxed forever, some day there will be something urgent happen to you, if you are used to the idol way of life, you are not likely to deal with it efficiently.

Moreover, giving yourself a little tension helps you to increase your potential. Chances are that with more experience in urgent situations, one grows up faster. With more practice one gradually accomplishes more.

So that’s why I’m not an advocator o a relaxed and unhurried life.

7. 人是被電視,報紙,廣播上的資訊影響得多,還是家人朋友得影響多

8. Which one acts more influence on you newspaper, TV or teachers?

I tend to think people nowadays are influenced more by the media rather than their family or friends. For one thing, people are exposed to information from media much more than they spend time with family or friends. It is inevitable for one to absorb things from them and change a previous perception. In addition, modern people are more and more independent. They are not easy to be affected by another person. But they might believe what on the media, because these are more factual things. So I think the media influence people more.

9. 人們往往認為應該在危急時刻幫助別人,但另一種觀點認為你首先應該看清楚情況

I definitely agree that one should observe before helping others when there is a dangerous situation. For one thing, keep a clear mind helps you come up with better solutions to the emergency. Like, if the rescue may need more people than you or other tools. And you have to stop and think where to get them. In addition, if you rush too quickly to the scene, you may even endanger yourself. That’s definitely not helpful for anyone. So for these reasons, I think it will be wiser to think before you rescue people in danger.

25. Freshmen live together or with other grades?

I tend to agree that freshmen live with other grades, because it helps them fit in more quickly. For one thing, it creates more opportunities for the freshmen to make friends with their seniors and gain more knowledge about college life, like information of some professors, school policies, or resources in surrounding area. In addition, it’s also important for the new students to find an example to follow, and these examples are often from the higher grade students. Living with them helps one to know the model student better. So for these reasons, I think it’s beneficial for the freshmen to live with other grades.

描述類 Description(1)

1. 說出你認為對你最有用的一本書,並解釋原因。

I feel the most useful book is the one called “the 100 thousand why”, a book I read during elementary school. It is a threshold book introducing the most basic common sense to children. Although the language is simple, it accommodates all most everything one needs to grasp for life. In my early years, it helped me understand what’s going on in the universe, and establish a scientific view of world in me. In fact, I still remember many things learned from the books and it is undoubtedly the most useful book that has benefited me for the longest time.

2. Describe the most important decision that you made in your life.

So far, entering a university in Beijing has the greatest importance. It changed my life course and shaped my personality tremendously. In Beijing, life is totally different from what I had in my home town. I had to adjust myself to the climate, the dialect, the larger crowd of people and complicate traffic. I also learned to be independent without my parents being around. Moreover, through learning things in the university and making friends with people from all over the county, I developed a receptive attitude and expanded my view of the world. Therefore, study in Beijing is the most important decision for me.

3. Describe a social or political celebration or event in your culture.

4. 描述一件自己印象深刻的celebration或者moment.

In china, the most important celebration would be the celebration for the national day on October 1st every year. On the day, people go to the central square to watch the national flag being raised, and sing our anthem together. There are usually other activities and performance, like an open-air gala or an exhibition of flowers arranged in the shape of Chinese characters or symbolic pictures. People are so happy about this day, for it’s not only the birthday of out mother nation, but also a day to enjoy themselves.

For me, the most unforgettable celebration was the national day 5 years when I first came to Beijing because I celebrated it with my classmates. The day before the national day, we decided to go to the tian’anmen square to watch the flag rise. Twenty of us set out in the midnight and stayed there until sunrise. When the ceremony finally began and we watch the flag climbing, we were so excited and we hold hands with each other and sang the national anthem together. I felt so warm and so proud at the moment. And it becomes a mental picture forever in my head.

5. 閒置時間用來做什麼?

6. 你通常喜歡去什麼park或者public area。

7. What will you do to relax yourself?

If I have the chance to relax, I’d like to spend some time in a café with good atmosphere and soft music. There is one such coffee house in my university that I like to go on weekends. I enjoy their delicious coffee and cookies. And also they have interesting magazines available and small chess games you can play. Sometimes I’d invite a close friend to go there together, we sit comfortably and talk about the latest changes in each other. In my opinion, café is pretty good choice when I want some refreshing moments.

8. 你和朋友在一起的時候喜歡去哪個地方?為什麼?

9. 和朋友在一起,喜歡在restaurant,café還是在家

When I hang out with my friends, I always prefer to spend some time in a café with good atmosphere and soft music. Because I’m a quiet person, and so are most of my friends. There is one such coffee house in my university that we like to go to on weekends. We’d enjoy the delicious coffee and cookies. Sometimes we also read magazines together or play chess games. And we can just sit there and talk about the latest changes in each other. In my opinion, a café is the ideal place for me and my friends to have some peaceful but tasteful moments.

10. 說出你所居住的城市中你最喜歡的地方,給出原因。

I have lived in Beijing for almost 6 years, and have visited many places in the city. However, if I am asked to name the one I like most, I’d always say that the national library is my favorite. It is the biggest library of the country, accommodating millions of books on every subject. It provides all the materials I need for research and for fun. Moreover, visits to the library increase my impulse to acquire new knowledge, because every time I go there I see lots of people reading eagerly and devoutly. These people give me encouragement. I think there is no place in Beijing I like more than the national library.

11. 說一個你敬佩的人的好性格

My mother is the one I admire the most, because she treats me with extraordinary patience and an open mind. When I was little and naughty, it often took my mom many efforts to teach me about good and bad. Sometimes I got very radical, but she was patient enough to bring me back to the track. In addition, She was always supportive when I raised a reasonable request. She also trusted me to make my own decisions, like how to spend my pocket money or which study group to join. Because of my mother’s influence, I became this cultivated and useful person today.

12. Characteristics of friends;

As far as I see, all good friends of mine are honest and helpful. I like honest people because they are easier to deal with. They open their heart to you, you feel safe to confide your problems to them, and they always offer their true opinion for your good. In addition, a good friend is always ready to help when you need a hand, like the old saying “a friend in need is a friend indeed”. They carry your boxes when you change apartment, comfort you when you feel blue, and even lend you money to get you through a tough time. Only friends like this deserve to be credited as the good ones

13. What do you think are the characteristics of a good parent?

As far as I see, good parents all distinguish themselves in treating their child patiently with an open mind. It often takes many efforts to teach the kid about good and bad. Sometimes when the kid gets very radical, the parent needs to be patient enough to bring him or her back to the track. In addition, a good parent is supportive enough when the child raises a reasonable request. They should also trust the kid to make their own decisions, like how to spend their pocket money or which study group to join. Only such parent can one make a good parent.

14. good leader有哪些qualities ?

As far as I see, good leaders all distinguish themselves in foresights and receptiveness. A leader should be able to see further than his underlings in setting a goal for the whole team. When faced with hardships, he must be able to envision a bright future for other people to hold on. An excellent example will be President Roosevelt during the Great Depression. In addition, a good leader is usually a good listener, too. He tolerates different voices to make his staff feel secure, so they are motivated to contribute more. So I think these tow qualities make a good leader.

15. 老師的character

As far as I see, good teachers all distinguish themselves in patience and understanding about the subject they are teaching. The primary task of a teacher is to transmit knowledge to students; this requires them to know their stuff well. They should be ready with answers whenever a question is raised. In addition, a good teacher needs great patience. If the students cannot follow the points in class, the teacher should repeat the relevant part over and over again until everybody understands. If students come up with questions after class, the teacher should also be willing to take time answering them. Only with these two qualities can one make a good teacher.

Physics-Conversion of Energy

Physics-Conversion of Energy

Beginning in the year 1840, James Joule performed a long series of experiments to study the conversion of mechanical energy to heat. In one experiment he used a barrel to heat water by rotating a paddle wheel inside the barrel. He measured the work done in turning the wheel and the heat produced in the water, and found that a given amount of work always produced the same amount of heat. Later experiments showed that heat and mechanical energy are always converted back forth in precisely the same ratio. We now know that the same rule is true for all forms of energy. In everyday terms, energy is never lost: When it disappears in one from, it always shows up in an equal amount in another form. This principle- known as the law of conservation of energy- is one of the fundamental laws of classical physics and is a very cornerstone of modern science and technology.

When it comes to the subject of energy, we should understand why a nation like the United States cannot solve its energy problems by operating automobiles on electricity instead of gasoline. It should be clear by now that electrical energy is no easier to come by than the chemical energy in gasoline. Neglecting engine efficiency for the moment, it takes the same amount of energy to move an automobile a given distance regardless of the initial source of that energy. If all our autos ran on electricity, that energy could be supplied only by burning additional fossil or nuclear fuel at our electricity generating plants. It is true, of course, that electric motors are more efficient than gasoline engines. But this advantage might well be offset by the weight of the batteries to be carried about.

Astronomy-The Galaxies

Astronomy-The Galaxies

Stars are found in huge groups called galaxies. Scientists estimate that the larger galaxies may contain as many as a trillion stars, while the smallest may have fewer than a million. Galaxies can be up to 100,000 light-years in diameter.

Galaxies may have any of four general shapes. Elliptical galaxies show little or no structure and vary from moderately flat to spherical in general shape. Spiral galaxies have a small, bright central region, or nucleus, and arms that come out of the nucleus and wind around, trailing off life a giant pinwheel. In barred spiral galaxies, the arms extend sideways in a short straight line before turning off into the spiral shape. Both kinds of spiral systems are flat. Irregular galaxies are usually rather small and have no particular shape or form.

Galaxies were long thought to be more or less passive objects, containing stars and interstellar gas and dust and shining by the radiation that their stars give off. When astronomers became able to make accurate observations of radio frequencies coming from space, they were surprised to find that a number of galaxies emit large amounts of energy in the radio region. Ordinary stars are so hot that most of their energy is emitted in invisible light, with little energy emitted at radio frequencies. Furthermore, astronomers were able to deduce that this radiation had been given off by charged particles of extremely high energy moving in magnetic fields.

Geology-What are Oil and Gas?

Geology-What are Oil and Gas?

Oil and gas are primarily mixtures of compounds of carbon and hydrogen, known as hydrocarbons. They are formed as part of a natural cycle which begins with deposits of plant and animal remains and fine sediment. Trapped over millions of years, often deep beneath the ocean, this organic matter is transformed by the combined effect of temperature and pressure into oil and natural gas.

The formation of oil and gas deposits, or reservoirs, occurs when these hydrocarbons migrate upward through the rock layers towards the surface. These hydrocarbons often escape to the surface where they may form natural oil seeps or, in the case of gas, simply dissipate. Any hydrocarbons remaining on the surface are soon oxidized by bacteria. Sometimes oil and gas are trapped in deep underground structures which prevent them reaching the surface. They may be trapped underneath curved layers of rock called anticlines, or by faults in the rock. Faults occur when layers of rock split and move, such as in an earthquake or during normal seismic events. The term reservoir can be misleading, giving people the impression of large subterranean lakes full of oil. In fact, oil and gas are trapped within porous sedimentary rocks such as sandstone or shale and ma occupy as little as five percent of the rock volume.
